Dear EFMI family,
With a profound sense of honor and excitement, I accept the role of President of the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI). This is a significant milestone in my career, and I am deeply grateful for the trust and confidence you have placed in me. I am committed to serving EFMI to the best of my abilities during my term until MIE 2026. Your trust is the foundation of our shared journey, and I look forward to working together to shape the future of EFMI.
My journey within EFMI and the wider medical informatics community has been marked by a steadfast commitment to fostering international collaboration, advancing our field, and bridging the gap between research and practical application. My tenure as a board member of the Swedish Association of Medical Informatics and as the Institutional Member Officer for EFMI has provided me with a deep understanding of the complexities of healthcare transformation. Organizing the Medical Informatics Europe (MIE) conferences twice on behalf of SFMI and co-hosting two China-EU summits with Catherine Chronaki, the two latest years with the EFMI led by Thomas Deserno have even more opened up the impact we could get from the Informatic Society in the expanding universe of digital empowerment.
Our contributions to various EU-funded projects have also been instrumental in preparing me to lead EFMI into a new era of innovation and impact. As President, my vision for EFMI includes:
- Use the power of our National Societies, Working groups, Institutional members, yEFMI to open up more empowerment of informatics
- Strengthening International Collaboration: Creating more opportunities for global partnerships and exchanges.
- Bridging Industry, Academia, and Patient demand: Ensuring our research and innovations lead to real-world improvements in healthcare.
- Advancing AI and Digital Health: Promoting the ethical, effective, and equitable use of transformative technologies to benefit organizations, researchers, and society.
- Enhancing Member Engagement: Fostering a vibrant and dynamic community where all members of the EFMI family can engage, collaborate, and contribute. The future lies in collaboration, and I aim to open our doors to other non-profit organizations and healthcare providers to participate and engage in the informatics perspective to bring beneficial support to humanity. Using what is already done for things not yet done.
I am filled with excitement and anticipation for the future of EFMI. I am eager to collaborate with all of you to revolutionize healthcare through informatics. Together, we can shape a future where medical informatics is not just a part but the heart of healthcare transformation.
Thank you for your unwavering support and trust. I invite you to connect with me on www.efmi.org and LinkedIn to stay updated on our progress and initiatives.
Warm regards, ( September 1 , 2024 )
Lars Lindsköld
